Dearborn Motel - Inkster, MI

The giant yellow metal claw just might catch your eye after a long drive.

New Frontier Beach Motel - Daytona Beach, FL

You've really got to applaud the chutzpah and imagination of going with a Wild West theme motel on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean in 1960s Florida. This one promises both "weenie roasts" and "dancing" on the back.

Hi-Lo Motel and Cafe - Weed, CA

One of the rare motels on this blog that I've actually stayed at. Still there to this day! See the cafe on the left there? They make a damn good cup of coffee, and their cottage cheese plate is to die for.

Sandman Motel - Madera, CA

Accepts your BankAmericard, Carte Blanche and Diner's Club card.....and has "free ice".

Suez Motel - Las Vegas, NV

This place used to be on the Las Vegas Strip! My card was sent July 17th, 1963 by Bob & Linda Radner to the Siccardis, whom they'd met a little earlier on their vacation in Boulder, CO. In 4 months JFK would be dead.

Akua Motor Hotel - Anaheim, CA

I've always maintained the best motels and roadside signs in the USA were in Orange County, California, and this awesome postcard bears witness to said claims.

Capri Motor Lodge - Durham, NC

Sent to indecipherable relatives in Baltimore, MD on March 26th, 1963, with the message, "I sure do like this Southern hospitality".

Park Plaza Motel - Fort Worth, TX

Two things I enjoy about this card - the quote on the back that says "Friendly" Fort Worth, Texas; and the phony "Surfside 6 Club Beauty Salon" paper sign that someone carefully placed over the photo on the front. What was it before???!?

Western Motel - Wendover, UT

This looks like a place where bodies are found at 4am. I don't know much about Wendover, but it says on the back that the motel is "Racing Headquarters".

Motel Samantha - Oxford, AL

Not much to add to this amazing shot - just nice to know there was a Howard Johnson restaurant next door. I fondly remember those.

Capri Lodge - Yakima, WA

An absolutely glorious sign. I'd stay there today in a heartbeat.

DeWitt's Keydet-General Motel - Lexington, VA

Some of my favorite postcards generously list your "hosts" on the back. This one says "Your hosts - 'Buster' and Norma Moore". Postmarked June 17th, 1970.
