This is a true gem - a motel with its own kiddie train! Motto is "All The Charm And Deep Down Comfort of the 90s But With Service And Convenience of Tomorrow". I think they mean 1890s. Surprised to see the 19th century invoked in the 1960s that way, am I right?

My postcard, postmarked May 20th, 1965, was sent by "Ethel & Red" to their pals back in Quincy, MA, saying, in its entirety, "Hi - homeward bound - nice place for our first night out".

Not to be confused with the Salem, OR City Center Motel I posted last week. This one's in coastal Newport, and is owned by Elmer & Mary Hess. The sign appears to be celebrating the rotary-dial telephone.

The Rainbow Inn - El Cajon, CA

Ugh. I feel hot and greasy already. I do like that the motel features a "package liquor store", though.

Dunes Motel - Bend, OR

Stunning, full-color Arabesque sign - one of my all-time favorites. You're wondering if this lasted past 9/11, aren't you?
