Coronado Motel - Longmont, CO

This "motel" was more than a little sad-looking, so they tarted it up with an excellent diamond lettering motif, two folding chairs - and boom, now I wish I'd stayed here all those trips to Longmont.

Space Age Motel - Caro, MI

Space-Age ANYTHING totally rules, and these guys totally knew they had a great thing going. The back says, "It's New - It's Modern - It's Carpeted". 

Clarion Motor Lodge - Clarion, PA

The beds! The carpeting! The curtains! They even lay claim to a "heated parking garage" - AND a bar.

The Olson's Motel - Cedar Rapids, IA

When you're collector of fine things like I am, something you have to pay a pretty penny for the finest. This one I bought on eBay just the other week, and lemme tell ya, it cost more than a dollar fifty.

Starlight Motel - Council Bluffs, IA

I don't even know what to say about that sign except for awesome.

Capitol Travel Lodge - Sacramento, CA

The motel claims that it has "stereophonic music". Presumably that means a stereo in every room, which shows just how important music/radio was to the 60s/70s traveler vs. the cable TV generation of today.

Doric Howe Motor Hotel - Vancouver, BC

Take a look at the font/letting on the side of the building. You couldn't get more retro/hipster, except that this is the real 1960s deal.

Dinosaur Motel - Vernal, UT

One of my best recent postcard finds. "Exquisite" gift shop; located at the "Center of Dinosaur Land".

This motel promises "Continuous music at all times" on the back - for real. Sign me up!

Towne Centre Motel - Seattle, WA

One of the great curiosities of the 1950s and 60s was how they'd "classy up" the names of brands or buildings by giving them olde english spellings. Hence, "Towne Centre Motel".

It would seem that the motel sign is supposed to approximate the shape of the state of Texas, right? With a horribly-drawn sleepy Rip Van Winkle sort of fella with a candle and sleeping cap? Awesome.

Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn - Frankenmuth, MI

Amazing. Check out the Glockenspiel Tower, the guy in lederhosen, and the Bavarian Inn party trolly.

"Comfort Talks", and "Steam Heat Welcome". OK!

Starlight Motel - Abeline, TX

The sign looks like it would have been amazing at night, with progressive neon arrows on two fronts.

Surf Motel - Santa Rosa, NM

The Surf Motel definitely knew what they were doing with this one. Round up every woman with a bathing suit staying at the hotel - and put 'em on the card! Check out the woman in the flashy gold suit in the middle, vogueing for the camera.

Carousel Motel - Anaheim, CA

Fantastic early 60s motel that lasted into the 80s. I know, because I remember this one....

Tamanaca Downtown Motel - New Orleans, LA

Seriously, this lists as one of its features "free ice cubes".

Crest Motel - Williamsburg, IA

"20 large and attractive rooms in a spacious rural setting". 

Capri Motel - Modesto, CA

Page Boy Motel - Page, AZ

Love the sign, but gawd, look at those rooms. Good thing the Glen Canyon Dam, whatever that is, is only one and a half miles away.
